About Kelli Fannin

Hello!!!   Welcome to my webpage!!!  I hope you will find it useful and entertaining!

Now let me explain who and WHAT I am.  First and foremost, I am a child advocate who strives to champion student education.  This became a needed undertaking for me because, simply put, I WAS the child left behind.  Most people are not aware of the difficult challenges I pushed through just to make it to the next level in education.

Though there was no name for it at the time, I know now I was severely ADHD, and the only medicine around then came in the form of a switch, belt, or a school paddle.  I am still a fidgeter.  It drives some people crazy to be around a child who cannot sit still.  I love all fidgiters.  I have special places in my classroom set up for this purpose so it will not distract other students.  I am also a doodler.  I listen and learn more during a lecture by doodling and writing down things I feel are most important, rather than sitting directly in front of the lecturer!  I let students choose their seats in my classroom.  They need to be relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings.

I am a strange bird.  I am not your regular ELAR teacher.  I love to have fun.  I love to laugh.  Yes, we have serious times, too, but I find students learn more at a higher level and retain more information if they have laughed while learning.  In my class, it isn't about 'the dreaded tests,' but more about the successful future each student deserves and will obtain by learning everything they need to know to get to the next level in life.  I love my job, colleagues, students, and yes, their parents.

Finally, I want to tell you about my own family! I have been married to Gary Fannin since February 14, 1992 (he's an Aggie, I had to pick a memorable date). He is a self employed farmer. We have three children:  Foster, a senior at Stephen F. Austin, is studying to be a band director, and marches in the SFA Lumberjack Band playing the tuba. Grant, a sophomore at University of Central Arkansas,  is studying cinematography and marches in the UCA Bear Band playing Euphonium.  Rachel is a junior at DHS, where she leads the DHS Band as Drum Major and plays trombone.  She plans to go into music as well.  I was blessed with three musical children.  My parents are Don and Pat Foster.  Dad is well-known as a former band director and electrician.  Mom is known for her many years working at the nursing home and being the town clown...lol  My sister, Sandy Foster Hamilton is a music teacher in New Boston, Tx (boo, hiss), and my best friend!

Thank you for visiting my page.  I look forward to working with you!  I know you will learn so much and have a great time achieving your ELAR goals!
