A NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR

Dear Parents,

We have had a great start to the new school year at DeKalb Elementary.  The students are going to be introduced to a new character education incentive program called “CAUGHT BEING GOOD.”  When a student is caught making good choices, they can be nominated by their teacher for a CAUGHT BEING GOOD award.  These awards are presented on the last Friday of each month.  The winners will receive a certificate and a food or drink coupon.  They will also have their picture taken and displayed on the Bulletin Board, and the winning names will be entered into a drawing for an additional prize at the end of the six weeks.    I know we will have many DeKalb students CAUGHT BEING GOOD!

In addition to the CAUGHT BEING GOOD incentive program, we are also emphasizing the 6 Pillars of Character: Trust, Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Fairness, and Caring.  During the month of October we will study Trust.  Each month we will focus on a different word.  Other character words we will study during the school year include Patience, Perseverance, and Self-Discipline.  Please help us reinforce these character concepts at home.

We will also observe Red Ribbon Week, October 20th – 24th.  You will receive more information about those activities later.

I am looking forward to a great year!  If you have any questions, please contact me anytime at (903) 667-2328.
