What we’re doing!

Exciting things are happening with the Reading First Program and our elementary students in Kindergarten-Third Grade!

August/September Events:

· Vocabulary of the Week: All K-4 students will be introduced to two new words a week.. One will be called “academic vocabulary” and the other word will be called “Fancy Nancy” word. “Academic Vocabulary” will be words dealing with the words teachers use in presenting lessons or words using in testing materials. (Ex.-summarizing, highlighting) “Fancy Nancy” words will be using synonyms for overused words. (Ex.-big-enormous)

Voyager Benchmarks: Kindergarten-3^rd Grade will be assessed with the Voyager Benchmarks from September 2-5. This assessment will identify your child’s strengths and needs.

TPRI test, for 1^st -3rd grade students, will be given the week of September 8-12.

This test will help the teachers identify the strengths and needs of each of their students.

Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and has a good breakfast each

morning this week. This helps your child concentrate while taking the test.

“Ticket to Read,” computer component of the Voyager reading program, is now “up and going” in each classroom. This is a fun way for your child to practice their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills. This can also be done at home. J
