In second grade we are using the Voyager Reading program, this program is used from kindergarten through the third grade. Our second grade reading program will pickup where first grade left off. Our theme for the year will be Hidingplaces. Our homework for the year will be for you and your child to enjoy reading nightly for 30 minutes, then for you as the parent to assist with filling out their reading log. Your child’s log will be checked on a daily to weekly basis. They will also be receiving a grade for this. Our reading program will be taking your child on mysteries, adventures, and travels around the world. The six units they will be studying are as follows:

· Unit 1 will consist of Backyards

· Unit 2 will consist of Deserts

· Unit3 will consist of Ponds - Wetlands

· Unit 4 will consist of Forest

· Unit 5 will consist of Mountains

· Unit 6 will consist of Space

Your child will be tested on their fluency at least twice a six weeks. Our goal is that your child will be reading 90 words per minute or more by the end of second grade.
