Complaints and Grievances Forms
Resolving Concerns at DeKalb ISD
Parents, staff members, and DeKalb ISD residents are encouraged to first work with the appropriate teacher or campus leadership to resolve concerns. Concerns should be expressed to the staff most closely involved in the situation as soon as possible to allow early resolution at the lowest possible administrative level. Informal resolution shall be encouraged but shall not extend any deadlines in this policy, except by mutual written consent. If issues cannot be resolved informally at the campus level, formal forms for grievances, library book challenges, and local instructional materials review requests can be found below.
-
Library Materials Challenge Form
Under Texas Education Code (TEC) §33.027, a parent, district employee, or person residing in a school district may submit a written challenge to any library material in a school’s library catalog. To submit a written challenge, an eligible individual must complete and submit the Library Materials Challenge Form. In accordance with TEC §33.027, an individual completing the form must identify how the challenged library material violates library standards adopted by the Texas State Library and Archive Commission (TSLAC).

Local Classroom Review Request
Under the provisions of HB 1605 a parent of a currently enrolled student may request that the DeKalb Independent School District complete a local classroom review of instructional materials used by a classroom teacher. This review request must be for a specific subject or grade level at a specific campus and may not be authorized more than once per year per teacher.
